Weston Criminal Defense and DUI

Weston, at the western edge of Broward, is policed by the Broward Sheriff's Office as District 8. Adam defends people arrested in Weston from his office about 15 miles east in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

Arrests in Weston

Weston contracts with the Broward Sheriff’s Office for police services. The district office is at 17300 Royal Palm Boulevard, about 15 miles straight-line from Adam’s office, and covers Weston and nearby unincorporated areas. In court papers it is BSO District 8.

Where Weston cases are heard

  • Misdemeanors from BSO District 8 are filed at the West Regional Courthouse, 100 N Pine Island Road in Plantation, about 7 miles east of the district office.
  • DUI cases are filed at the Central Courthouse, 201 SE 6th Street in Fort Lauderdale, under the circuit’s order for every Broward DUI. Adam’s office is across the street.
  • Felonies are heard at the Central Courthouse.

The first 24 hours

There is no jail in Weston. BSO’s jails are in downtown Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach, so a person arrested in Weston is taken across the county. If not released on bond, they see a judge at first appearance within 24 hours, by video from the jail to Room 4155 of the Central Courthouse West Tower. Hearings run at 8:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on weekdays and 8:30 a.m. on weekends and holidays. A lawyer at that hearing can argue for release on reasonable terms. Find someone with BSO’s online arrest search or at (954) 831-5900.

DUI and your license

A DUI arrest in Weston means a criminal case in Fort Lauderdale and a license suspension with a 10-day deadline. BSO runs the breath test, through its Breath Alcohol Testing program and the Intoxilyzer 8000, and if you refused the test that has its own consequences. See breath test refusal, DUI defense and Florida DUI penalties. The Bureau of Administrative Reviews office for Broward is in Lauderdale Lakes and takes requests by email.
