Arrests in Margate
The Margate Police Department is at 5790 Margate Boulevard, about 10 miles straight-line from Adam’s office, and its lobby is open 24 hours a day. Margate officers make the arrest, and the Broward Sheriff’s Office, which runs every jail in the county, holds anyone who is not released.
Where Margate cases are heard
- Misdemeanors brought by the Margate Police Department are filed at the North Regional Courthouse, 1600 W Hillsboro Blvd in Deerfield Beach, about 7 miles from the police station.
- DUI cases are filed at the Central Courthouse, 201 SE 6th Street in Fort Lauderdale. The circuit sends every Broward DUI there, and Adam’s office is across the street.
- Felonies are heard at the Central Courthouse.
An arrest in Margate by another agency, such as the Florida Highway Patrol, follows that agency’s courthouse assignment instead. The notice to appear or the bond paperwork names the courthouse.
The first 24 hours
If the person is not released on bond, a judge sees them at first appearance within 24 hours. Broward holds these hearings in Room 4155 of the Central Courthouse West Tower, with the person on video from the jail, at 8:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on weekdays and 8:30 a.m. on weekends and holidays. Before the hearing, family can confirm where someone is held with BSO’s online arrest search or at (954) 831-5900.
DUI and your license
A Margate DUI arrest starts a license suspension as well as the criminal case. You have 10 days to request a review. The Broward Bureau of Administrative Reviews office is in Lauderdale Lakes, about 5 miles from the Margate police station, and the request can be emailed.
