Delray Beach Criminal Defense and DUI

In Delray Beach the police station and the courthouse sit a block apart on West Atlantic Avenue. The South County Courthouse hears misdemeanor and DUI cases from across southern Palm Beach County, and Adam handles cases there from his Fort Lauderdale office.

Arrests in Delray Beach

The Delray Beach Police Department is at 300 West Atlantic Avenue, about 24 miles straight-line from Adam’s office. The South County Courthouse is one block east, at 200 West Atlantic Avenue. Outside city limits, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office patrols unincorporated Delray Beach as District 4.

The South County Courthouse

The South County Courthouse is the 15th Circuit’s courthouse for the Southern Region, which runs from the northern city limits of Lantana to the Broward line.

  • Misdemeanors and criminal traffic, including DUI, from Delray Beach police and PBSO District 4 are heard there, along with cases from Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Florida Atlantic University and other southern departments.
  • Arraignments for misdemeanor, criminal traffic and DUI charges are held there every week. The State Attorney’s South County office is in the building, Suite 100.
  • Felonies go to circuit criminal judges, most of whom sit at the Judge Daniel T. K. Hurley Courthouse in West Palm Beach.
  • The Clerk of Court has an office in the courthouse, (561) 274-1530.

The first 24 hours

First appearance is not normally held in Delray Beach. A person held after an arrest goes to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s jail system, and first appearance is in the Criminal Justice Courtroom at 3228 Gun Club Road in West Palm Beach, at 10:00 a.m. on weekdays and 9:00 a.m. on weekends and holidays. On a misdemeanor the judge may arraign and sentence right there. Call a lawyer before deciding to plead. PBSO Inmate Records is (561) 688-4340.

DUI and your license

A Delray Beach DUI arrest starts a 10-day deadline to act on your license. The state’s Palm Beach County listing points to the Bureau of Administrative Reviews office in Lauderdale Lakes, which accepts the request by email. See DUI defense and Florida DUI penalties.
