Arrests in Coral Gables
The Coral Gables Police Department is at 2151 Salzedo Street, about 26 miles straight-line from Adam’s office. The city describes it as a CALEA-accredited agency with 205 sworn officers. After an arrest, the person is booked by Miami-Dade Corrections at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGK), 7000 NW 41 Street in Miami, which can take several hours. Anyone still held sees a judge at first appearance, normally at the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building.
Coral Gables cases in court
- The Coral Gables Branch Courthouse is at 3100 Ponce de Leon Boulevard, under a mile from police headquarters. County court criminal judges sit there, and it is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, with free parking in the building’s lot.
- Misdemeanors and criminal traffic charges, including DUI, are heard by county court judges, either at the Gerstein building or at a branch courthouse. Miami-Dade’s county court has eight divisions, and every case goes to a division judge. Your paperwork names the courthouse; do not assume it is the one closest to the arrest.
- Felonies are heard by circuit court judges at the Gerstein Justice Building, 1351 NW 12th Street in Miami, about 3.5 miles from Coral Gables police headquarters.
- Prosecution is handled by the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office.
DUI arrests in Coral Gables
A Coral Gables DUI is two cases, a criminal charge in county court and an administrative license suspension. The license deadline is 10 days. The Bureau of Administrative Reviews office for Miami-Dade, in downtown Miami, is temporarily closed to the public; hearing requests go by email. A first breath test refusal means a 1-year suspension and, since October 1, 2025, can be charged as a separate crime. See the 10-day rule, breath test refusal and DUI defense.
Miami-Dade prosecutors run a DUI diversion program for some first-time defendants, called Back on Track, and decide eligibility case by case.
