Arrests in Boca Raton
The Boca Raton Police Services Department is at 100 NW Boca Raton Boulevard, about 17 miles straight-line from Adam’s office. Boca police make most arrests in the city. Florida Atlantic University has its own police department for its campus, and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office covers the unincorporated Boca Raton area as its District 7.
Boca Raton is in Palm Beach County, not Broward, so everything after the arrest runs through the 15th Judicial Circuit and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Where Boca Raton cases are heard
- Misdemeanors and criminal traffic, including DUI, from Boca Raton police, FAU police and PBSO’s District 7 are assigned to the circuit’s Southern Region and heard at the South County Courthouse, 200 West Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach, about 8 miles north of the Boca police station.
- Arraignments for misdemeanor, criminal traffic and DUI cases are held there every week, handled by the State Attorney’s South County office in the same building.
- Felonies are heard by circuit criminal judges, most of whom sit at the Judge Daniel T. K. Hurley Courthouse in West Palm Beach.
The first 24 hours
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office runs the county’s jails. Its Main Detention Center is at 3228 Gun Club Road in West Palm Beach, and the first appearance courtroom is at the same address. A person who is not released sees a judge there within 24 hours, at 10:00 a.m. on weekdays or 9:00 a.m. on weekends and holidays. On a misdemeanor, the judge may take a plea and sentence at that first hearing, so speak with a lawyer before you agree to anything. PBSO’s online booking search and Inmate Records at (561) 688-4340 can tell family where someone is held.
Boca Raton cases Adam has handled
In 2010, Adam represented the homeowners after a Homecoming party at their Boca Raton home was crashed by hundreds of underage guests, a case covered by the Sun Sentinel and HLN. Read the story. Every case is different, and past cases do not predict the outcome of yours.
DUI and your license
Florida DUI law is the same in Palm Beach as in Broward, including the 10-day deadline to act on your license. The state’s listing for Palm Beach County points drivers to the Bureau of Administrative Reviews office in Lauderdale Lakes, and the review can be requested by email.
