Arrests in Miami Beach
The Miami Beach Police Department is headquartered at 1100 Washington Avenue, about 23 miles straight-line from Adam’s office. After an arrest, the person is taken to the mainland for booking at the county’s Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGK), 7000 NW 41 Street in Miami. Booking can take several hours, and anyone still held then sees a judge at first appearance, normally at the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building in Miami.
The Miami Beach courthouse
The Miami Beach Branch Courthouse stands at 1130 Washington Avenue, on the same block as police headquarters. As of November 2026 the court lists it as temporarily closed by the City of Miami Beach, and it is missing from the circuit’s list of County Criminal locations. For criminal matters the court gives a phone number, 305-548-5122, instead of a front desk.
What that means in practice is that a Miami Beach case may be heard somewhere other than Miami Beach while the building is closed. Your citation, bond paperwork or notice names the courthouse, and Adam can confirm the date and the courtroom for you.
Miami Beach cases in court
- Misdemeanors and criminal traffic charges, including DUI, are heard by county court judges. Miami-Dade’s county court has eight divisions, and every case is assigned to a division judge.
- Felonies are heard by circuit court judges at the Gerstein Justice Building, 1351 NW 12th Street in Miami.
- Prosecution is handled by the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office.
DUI arrests in Miami Beach
A Miami Beach DUI starts a criminal case and a license suspension. The license deadline is 10 days. The state’s Bureau of Administrative Reviews office for Miami-Dade is temporarily closed to the public, so the hearing request goes by email. See the 10-day rule, breath test refusal and DUI defense. A first-time DUI may be considered for the State Attorney’s Back on Track diversion program; prosecutors decide who is eligible.
