Arrests in Wellington
Wellington has no village police department. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office polices it as District 8, from a district office at 14000 Greenbriar Boulevard, about 38 miles straight-line from Adam’s office. The deputy who arrests you, the jail and the records all belong to PBSO. On state roads, the Florida Highway Patrol’s Lake Worth District also makes arrests in Palm Beach County.
Where Wellington cases are heard
- Misdemeanors and criminal traffic, including DUI, from PBSO District 8 are assigned to the 15th Circuit’s Central Region. Cases in that region are heard at the Judge Daniel T. K. Hurley Courthouse, 205 North Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach, and citations that need a court appearance are scheduled at the Criminal Justice Complex, 3228 Gun Club Road, about 12 miles east of the district office.
- Felonies go to circuit criminal judges, most of whom sit at the Hurley Courthouse.
PBSO’s districts for Royal Palm Beach and Greenacres are assigned to the same region.
The first 24 hours
A person held after a Wellington arrest is taken into PBSO’s jail system and sees a judge within 24 hours in the Criminal Justice Courtroom at 3228 Gun Club Road, the same address as the Main Detention Center. Hearings start at 10:00 a.m. on weekdays and 9:00 a.m. on weekends and holidays. On a misdemeanor, the judge may arraign and sentence at that first hearing, so it is worth having a lawyer’s advice before pleading. PBSO Inmate Records is (561) 688-4340.
DUI and your license
A Wellington DUI starts the 10-day deadline on your license. The state’s Palm Beach County listing directs license reviews to the Bureau of Administrative Reviews office in Lauderdale Lakes, and the request can be emailed. See DUI defense, what to expect when pulled over and Florida DUI penalties.
