Arrests in Lake Worth Beach
The Lake Worth Police Department merged into the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, which marked the tenth anniversary of the merger in October 2018. Today the city is PBSO District 14, with its district office at 120 North G Street, about 35 miles straight-line from Adam’s office. Court orders still call it the City of Lake Worth, so expect to see that name on your paperwork.
Where Lake Worth Beach cases are heard
Lake Worth Beach is in the 15th Circuit’s Central Region, not the Southern Region that covers its neighbors to the south.
- Misdemeanors and criminal traffic, including DUI, from PBSO District 14 are assigned to the Central Region. Cases in that region are heard at the main courthouse, the Judge Daniel T. K. Hurley Courthouse at 205 North Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach, and citations that require a court appearance are scheduled at the Criminal Justice Complex, 3228 Gun Club Road, about 4 miles from the district office.
- Felonies go to circuit criminal judges, most of whom sit at the Hurley Courthouse.
So a Lake Worth Beach case goes to West Palm Beach, while an arrest a few miles south in Boynton Beach goes to Delray Beach.
The first 24 hours
PBSO is both the arresting agency and the jailer. A person held after an arrest is taken to the Sheriff’s jail system, and first appearance is in the Criminal Justice Courtroom at 3228 Gun Club Road, the same address as PBSO’s Main Detention Center, within 24 hours. Hearings start at 10:00 a.m. on weekdays and 9:00 a.m. on weekends and holidays. The judge can arraign and sentence on a misdemeanor at that hearing, so get advice before pleading. PBSO Inmate Records is (561) 688-4340.
DUI and your license
A DUI arrest starts the 10-day clock on your license. The state’s Palm Beach County listing sends license reviews to the Bureau of Administrative Reviews office in Lauderdale Lakes, which takes requests by email. See DUI defense, breath test refusal and Florida DUI penalties.
