Tamarac Criminal Defense and DUI

Tamarac does not have a city police department. The Broward Sheriff's Office polices it as District 7. Adam defends people arrested in Tamarac from his office about 11 miles away in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

Arrests in Tamarac

Tamarac contracts with the Broward Sheriff’s Office for law enforcement. BSO’s Tamarac district office is at 7515 Pine Island Road, about 11 miles straight-line from Adam’s office, and the courts know it as BSO District 7. The deputy who stops you, the jail that books you and the breath test program are all BSO’s. BSO’s DUI Unit runs a DUI Task Force for checkpoints and a Breath Alcohol Testing program using the Intoxilyzer 8000, including a mobile testing truck.

Where Tamarac cases are heard

  • Misdemeanors from BSO District 7 are filed at the West Regional Courthouse, 100 N Pine Island Road in Plantation, about 6 miles south of the district office along Pine Island Road.
  • DUI cases are filed at the Central Courthouse, 201 SE 6th Street in Fort Lauderdale, under the order that sends every Broward DUI there. Adam’s office is across the street.
  • Felonies are heard at the Central Courthouse.

The first 24 hours

BSO books arrested people into its jail system. Anyone not released on bond sees a judge at first appearance within 24 hours, by video to Room 4155 of the Central Courthouse West Tower, at 8:30 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. on weekdays and 8:30 a.m. on weekends and holidays. BSO’s online arrest search and (954) 831-5900 can tell you where someone is held.

Diversion

For some first-time misdemeanor charges, the Broward State Attorney’s Misdemeanor Diversion Program can end a case without a conviction; eligibility is decided at arraignment. The State Attorney’s list of programs has none for DUI. Ask early whether you qualify. See criminal defense.

DUI and your license

A Tamarac DUI starts a 10-day deadline on your license. The Broward Bureau of Administrative Reviews office in Lauderdale Lakes, about 6 miles from the district office, takes requests by email. See DUI defense and Florida DUI penalties.
