Arrests in Sunrise
The Sunrise Police Department is headquartered in the Public Safety Building at 10440 West Oakland Park Boulevard, about 10 miles straight-line from Adam’s office. Sunrise officers make arrests in the city. Anyone held is booked into the jail system run by the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Where Sunrise cases are heard
- Misdemeanors brought by the Sunrise Police Department are filed at the West Regional Courthouse, 100 N Pine Island Road in Plantation, about 4 miles from the police station.
- DUI cases are filed at the Central Courthouse, 201 SE 6th Street in Fort Lauderdale. Broward sends every DUI there, whichever agency arrested you, and Adam’s office is across the street.
- Felonies are heard at the Central Courthouse.
If the Florida Highway Patrol, not Sunrise police, made the arrest, the case follows FHP’s assignment, which depends on where in the county the arrest happened.
The first 24 hours
A person who is not released on bond sees a judge at first appearance within 24 hours, by video from the jail to Room 4155 of the Central Courthouse West Tower. Dockets run at 8:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on weekdays and 8:30 a.m. on weekends and holidays. Anyone processed at the jail by 4:00 a.m. goes on the morning docket.
