Deerfield Beach Criminal Defense and DUI

The North Regional Courthouse is in Deerfield Beach, and the city is policed by the Broward Sheriff's Office as District 10. Adam defends people arrested in Deerfield Beach from his office about 14 miles south in Fort Lauderdale.

Arrests in Deerfield Beach

Deerfield Beach does not have a city police department. It contracts with the Broward Sheriff’s Office, and its deputies work out of the BSO Deerfield Beach district office at 300 NE 2nd Street, about 14 miles straight-line from Adam’s office. In court papers the agency is BSO District 10.

BSO’s DUI Unit operates countywide, including a DUI Task Force that runs checkpoints and a Breath Alcohol Testing program using the Intoxilyzer 8000 with a mobile testing truck. In a BSO DUI case, how the stop, the field exercises and the breath test were handled is examined closely. See breath test refusal.

The courthouse in Deerfield Beach

The North Regional Courthouse is at 1600 W Hillsboro Blvd, about a mile and a half from the BSO district office. County court criminal judges sit there, and the State Attorney has a satellite office in the building.

  • Misdemeanors from BSO District 10 are filed at the North Regional Courthouse.
  • DUI cases are filed at the Central Courthouse, 201 SE 6th Street in Fort Lauderdale, under the circuit’s order for every Broward DUI. Adam’s office is across the street.
  • Felonies are heard at the Central Courthouse. The regional courthouses do not hear felonies.

So a Deerfield Beach resident charged with, say, a misdemeanor battery may go to court close to home, while a DUI from the same street goes to downtown Fort Lauderdale.

The first 24 hours

BSO runs every Broward jail, and anyone held after an arrest sees a judge at first appearance within 24 hours, in Room 4155 of the Central Courthouse West Tower, by video. Dockets run at 8:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on weekdays and 8:30 a.m. on weekends and holidays. Find someone with BSO’s online arrest search or at (954) 831-5900.
