Dania Beach Criminal Defense and DUI

Dania Beach has no city police department. The Broward Sheriff's Office polices it as District 2, and its criminal cases come to the courthouse across the street from Adam's office in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

Arrests in Dania Beach

Dania Beach contracts with the Broward Sheriff’s Office for law enforcement. The deputies who patrol the city work out of BSO’s Dania Beach district office at 4601 SW 30th Avenue, about 4 miles straight-line from Adam’s office, and the court system knows them as BSO District 2. The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Port Everglades are separate BSO districts, 3 and 14.

Because BSO is both the arresting agency and the jailer, its procedures run through the whole case. BSO has its own DUI Unit, with a DUI Task Force that runs checkpoints and a Breath Alcohol Testing program using the Intoxilyzer 8000, including a mobile testing truck. Whether those procedures were followed is part of every BSO DUI defense. See breath test refusal and what to expect when you are pulled over.

Where Dania Beach cases are heard

  • Misdemeanors from BSO District 2 are filed at the Central Courthouse, 201 SE 6th Street in Fort Lauderdale. So are cases from the airport and Port Everglades districts.
  • DUI cases from anywhere in Broward are filed at the Central Courthouse too.
  • Felonies are heard there as well, in the courthouse’s North Building.
  • Traffic tickets that are not crimes are different. Civil infractions written in District 2 go to the South Regional Courthouse in Hollywood, so a Dania Beach driver can have a ticket in Hollywood and a criminal case in Fort Lauderdale.

For a Dania Beach arrest, that means nearly every court date is a short walk from Adam’s office.

The first 24 hours

BSO books arrested people through its Central Intake at the Main Jail, 555 SE 1st Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. Anyone not released on bond sees a judge at first appearance within 24 hours, in Room 4155 of the Central Courthouse West Tower, by video from the jail. Hearings run at 8:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on weekdays and 8:30 a.m. on weekends and holidays. Family can search BSO’s online arrest records or call (954) 831-5900.

DUI and your license

A Dania Beach DUI arrest starts the 10-day clock on your license. The Bureau of Administrative Reviews office for Broward is in Lauderdale Lakes, and the request can be emailed. See DUI defense and Florida DUI penalties.
